The Lehigh Parkway "I Am On A Bookshelf" Project needs your help!

December 13, 2017

We've talked about the fantastic "I Am On A Bookshelf" project before - the program at Lehigh Parkway Elementary that allows young authors to write, edit, illustrate and publish their very own books. We've been happy to partner with the school to produce their books for the past two years. Now they've asked us to help raise money to continue the program. We hope you'll consider making a small donation to help out.

The Lehigh Parkway students that sign up for this wonderful program share a common dream. A dream of that euphoric moment when a first-time author gazes upon their published work in a bookstore, and proudly boasts, “I Am On A Bookshelf!” The vision of Lehigh Parkway students making that ecstatic shout was the inspiration behind this project.

To date, the I Am On A Bookshelf program has made it possible for 75 Parkway students to write, edit, illustrate and publish their very own books! They were also given the amazing opportunity to be the stars of a book signing held in their honor at Barnes & Noble. We at Dan's Camera City provide printing services so that each student participant gets their own unique book. The books are custom designed, contain an author bio, have beautiful full color pages, and even contain an individual UPC code.

Over the previous two years, the Allentown School District Foundation has supplied the funding for this initiative. We are incredibly grateful of their help and support thus far. As the program enters its third year, they are looking for financial support to continue to promote the dreams of these outstanding students. The goal is to ensure that every student participant receives a free book at the conclusion of the project. If you are able to support this effort, donations can be made out to Lehigh Parkway Elementary School through this GoFundMe set up by teacher & project coordinator Donald Stahl.

Even a dollar or two will help them get closer to their funding goal. Every $35 in contributions helps another student in fulfilling their desire to shout, “I Am On A Bookshelf” while holding their published work for the first time. Letters of appreciation documenting your kindness will be mailed to each donor.

Thank you for any support you can give. Please share this and spread the word!
