Tips for Mac Users

There's a few small differences in our standard systems for Macintosh users. Here's a few tips to help you out.

Bringing photos from your Photos library to Dan's

Use a USB thumb drive or portable hard drive

  1. Make sure the drive has not been re-formatted to be Mac-specific. USB thumb drives are compatible with both Macintosh and Windows computers by default, but if you've erased the drive, you might have chosen to reformat it to be Macintosh-only.
  2. Plug in your drive. It should appear on your Desktop when it's ready.
  3. Drag your pictures from iPhoto onto the drive icon on your Desktop.
  4. When you've copied all the pictures you want, drag the drive icon to the Trash. (note how the Trash icon changes into the Eject icon) When the icon disappears, it's safe to unplug the drive.

Burn a CD or DVD if you have the drive to do so

When you burn a CD in iPhoto, it creates a backup of a portion of you iPhoto library complete with thumbnails, titles, keywords, and other information . It's a great way to archive photos in your library, but it's not the best way to use your photos on other computers like our photo ordering kiosks. To burn a disc for use with other computers, we'll have to use the Finder instead. It's almost the same as using a USB thumb drive.

  1. Put a blank CD or DVD in your computer. Your disc will show up on your desktop as what's called a Burn Folder - a temporary holding spot for the files you'll burn to that disc.
  2. In iPhoto, find the photos you want and drag them to that Burn Folder.
  3. Go back and open the Burn Folder, and click the Burn button in the upper right corner.
