We recently had the opportunity to install some new art at the Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital. The work is a vibrant collage of sunflower photos, and was donated by photographer Micki Wechsler.
She created the installation to be printed and displayed on our Collagewall materials, and the result is bright and cheerful display that brings a sense of warmth to the space.
Asked about the work and her donation to the hospital, Micki writes:
"There are a number of reasons why I wanted to donate the sunflower picture to Lehigh Valley Hospital specifically to the children's hospital. Many years ago my mother was in the hospital for several weeks and there were times when I had to leave the room just to clear my mind. I will go and look at the artwork and find some momentary relief, some comfort looking at the images and it helped me go back to the situation at hand with a more relaxed feeling.
Secondly, my daughter was experiencing a very difficult pregnancy and had to be transported over to Lehigh Valley Hospital to help prevent the delivery of my grandson at 27 weeks gestation. Although he was born a month early, two weeks ago we celebrated his sixth birthday and he is a happy, active little boy thanks to the wonderful support he and his mom received at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
The third thing is that in 2020, a very dear friend of mine suffered a stroke and was in very, very critical condition. There were two nurses who sat outside his door at LVHN and watched over him endlessly to make sure that he was gently being taken care of. The love that I saw from them was some thing I will always remember and was able to share with his family, his daughters, after he passed, knowing that he was in such wonderful care as he approached the end of his life.
I have always loved sunflowers, as they turn towards the sun to grow in a strong, beautiful manner. They simply exude warmth, comfort and feelings that things will be fine as they sway gently in the light."
