Monster Movie Portrait Workshop

October 25 - Join us here at Dan's Camera City for a spooktacular workshop where we'll capture cinematic portraits inspired by some of our favorite movies for the halloween season.

Whether you're new to photography or have been shooting for years, this hands-on workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to explore their creative side. Learn how to use lighting to set the mood, direct your subjects for captivating portraits, and bring out that eerie atmosphere in your photos.

We'll begin in our studio classroom where you'll learn essential camera settings and lighting techniques with plenty of hands-on practice. Then we'll head outside to capture spooky scenes filled with Halloween fun. You'll work with costumed models, props, atmospheric lighting, and other creative elements. Don't miss this one of a kind workshop experience.

In this workshop we'll cover:

  • Working with off-camera flash and LEDs, creating light and shadow to set the mood
  •  Directing our models to create a dynamic sense of action
  •  Wardrobe, makeup, props, and setting the scene for creative effect

Suggested gear for this workshop:

  • Any interchangeable lens camera
  • Portrait-length lens for closeups (50-80mm)
  • Medium-wide lens for environmental portraits (23-35mm)
  • A standard zoom lens (e.g. 18-55mm or 24-70mm) will work just fine!
  • Godox flash or radio trigger, if you already own one

You don't need to own a flash or any other lighting to attend this workshop, we'll provide lights and radio triggers. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to unleash your inner monster movie director!

Additional considerations

Watch the weather forecast and dress appropriately, October weather can be unpredictable. We'll be outdoors at night, make sure to wear appropriate footwear. You may also want to pack a flashlight. Feel free to bring snacks and something to drink. We'll take a short break in between the indoor and outdoor portions of this workshop.
