Dec. 11: Teddy Bear Toss 2021 with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms

Scott Piccotti • Nov 05, 2021

The Teddy Bear Toss is back for 2021!

We're proud to announce that we're sponsoring the upcoming Teddy Bear Toss night on Saturday, December 11 at the Phantoms game at PPL Center.

Now you may be asking yourself "what the heck is teddy bear toss, and what does it have to do with hockey?" So here's the deal: Fans are encouraged to bring new teddy bears to the game, and to throw them onto the ice when the home team scores its first goal. Don't worry, teddy bears will be available for sale at the game if you don't want to make a special trip to a toy store! The toys are then gathered up to be donated as Christmas presents to Valley Youth House, a local children's charity.

Watch the 2016 Teddy Bear Toss:

Over the past six seasons, Phantoms fans have donated more than 30,800 teddy bears and stuffed animals, and we can’t stop now! Dan's Camera City is a proud partner of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and we're delighted to be taking part in this charity benefit event. Hope to see you there!

About our charity: Valley Youth House

Building Foundations, Shaping Futures

Valley Youth House does more than just provide a home for Pennsylvania’s vulnerable, abused, and homeless youth. We partner with thousands of individuals each year to build a solid foundation for young people and their families. With dedicated street outreach, housing, counseling, skills training, health, prevention, and intervention services, we empower resilient young people in establishing promising futures.

Whatever the situation, Valley Youth House is here to help! As an essential, life-sustaining non-profit organization, the doors of Valley Youth House have remained open through this life-altering pandemic to help youth and families who need our services. Now more than ever, young people and families need emergency supplies, life skills training, housing, and therapeutic support.

At Valley Youth House, we are taking care of vulnerable youth and families, and as an essential life-sustaining business, our doors remain open. Now more than ever, homeless young people and families need emergency supplies, housing, and therapeutic support. Our staff are on the front lines of service delivery, and we are in need of additional resources to support our long term needs.

At Valley Youth House, we are taking care of vulnerable young people and families, as well as our dedicated staff who work with them every day. As an essential life-sustaining business, our shelters and residential sites are still open and serving youth, and we are continuing to connect with clients virtually to assure their safety and wellbeing and to provide therapeutic support and needed resources. Like many of you, we are forecasting various scenarios based on how long this pandemic will impact us. We know one thing for sure – youth and families still need our help, families still need counseling, housing and support, and there are many people like you who care for others and want to help.

At Valley Youth House, we do more than just provide a home for vulnerable, abused and homeless youth; we partner with thousands of individuals to build a solid foundation for young people and their families.

#CouchesDontCount® is meant to raise awareness for the disproportionate rate of young people experiencing homelessness that are “couch surfing”, or staying with friends or acquaintances rather than sleeping unsheltered. Some studies have suggested as high as 64% of youth experiencing homelessness are “couch surfing” as means of shelter.

The message is clear: #CouchesDontCount® as stable housing for any young person experiencing homelessness. More can and should be done to support these young people in finding resources, shelter, and transitional housing, with the ultimate goal of achieving independence & stability.

The "solar maximum" is letting us see the Aurora Borealis unusually far south this year. Here's how to increase your chances of seeing them here in Pennsylvania. ALERT: Strong G3-class geomagnetic storms are possible today, May 11th , when a CME is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. During G3-class storms auroras have been sighted in the USA as far south as Oregon, Nebraska and Virginia. (via spaceweather.com )
