Photo Walk at Grounds for Sculpture

Jun 26, 2014

Join Dan’s Co-Owner Mike and his family for a day trip to Grounds for Sculpture. Mike found this to be a great venue for creative photos, but since it was raining on his visit he’s been looking forward to returning. Mike’s wife, Melissa, is an Art Teacher and finds the grounds very enjoyable and inspiring. Their daughter Mallory will also be along with her camera and her art bag to capture her own images.

This outdoor museum and gardens is a wonderful venue to explore sculptures set in fascinating scenes. Photographers will find opportunities to capture images of the artwork itself as well as the gardens and unique landscape. Artists can enjoy the sculptures and are free to use any medium they choose if they wish to create their own work while on the grounds. Melissa will coordinate an artist’s meet & share if there’s enough interest.

The current exhibit is so popular there are some weekends where the museum has to turn people away, so check your calendar for Friday June 27th. Mike and his family are planning to go then so long as the weather is at least partly sunny. This is a chance to meet up and enjoy photographing, creating artwork or just taking in the wonderful grounds. We aren’t having anything structured so there’s no cost beyond your own transportation and admission. You don’t need to RSVP , just join Mike and his family if you wish.

We’ll post more details as we get closer to the date. Visit www.groundsforsculpture.org to see details about the museum itself. Even if you can’t make it on the 27th we encourage you to consider a trip on your own.

UPDATE : The weather is looking great for Friday’s trip to the Grounds for Sculpture! I’m charging batteries, packing my polarizer, reflector, and some extra lenses. Looking forward to a wonderful day. Say hello if you make it down, and be sure to post any photos you capture from anytime you visit the grounds. – Mike W.

The "solar maximum" is letting us see the Aurora Borealis unusually far south this year. Here's how to increase your chances of seeing them here in Pennsylvania. ALERT: Strong G3-class geomagnetic storms are possible today, May 11th , when a CME is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. During G3-class storms auroras have been sighted in the USA as far south as Oregon, Nebraska and Virginia. (via spaceweather.com )
